• People and Management spoke to Jivan Pant and Pankaj Minglani, Principal Consultants & Directors of one of India's leading and fastest growing HR Consulting companies, about the insights of hiring and consulting. Here is what they say:

Do you feel there is employability skill gap in India?

Yes, that too to a large extent, if we compare with developed countries. Though government and some large corporate houses have taken good steps but still gap is visible. The need of the hour is to do it on much larger scale and on faster pace.

How do you see the hiring trend in FY 14-15?

The hiring trend in FY 14-15 would be much better than FY 13-14. We are expecting around 40 percent increase in lateral and leadership hiring. This trend may vary sector-wise. Most of the companies would still do cautious and critical hiring only.

Can you elaborate on cautious hiring?

To ensure critical business need based hiring, now corporates are investing more on various HR studies. The objective is to align HR with business function in current volatile economic scenario. In recent past, our clients have been outsourcing us HR advisory services like talent mapping, exit interviews, attrition analysis, compensation benchmarking, and incentive benchmarking etc.

So what do you see the future of Recruitment Consulting in current volatile economic scenario?

The job of a Recruitment Consultant has become lot more challenging now and expectation of clients has increased manifolds. The entire Recruitment Industry is going through a major consolidation phase wherein consulting companies having competent team, best system & processes, high end technology and capacity to run RPOs effectively, can only survive.

Do you see any role of Recruitment Consultant in a scenario where companies have made their internal recruitment system strong?

Recruitment Consulting companies are playing a signifi cant role in entire recruitment eco system. “Internal recruitment of companies” and “Consultants providing recruitment consulting services” can co-exist comfortably. There is a lot of room for recruitment consultants to serve clients and grow.

HR technology based on data and analytics is replacing the traditional subjective approach in hiring and recruitment. Do you agree? If yes, how it is benefi tting HR professionals as well as organisations?

Yes, without proper data analysis, it is like driving car with closed eyes. It is indeed playing a signifi cant role in hiring process. It is benefi tting entire recruitment fraternity in terms of making the data available and drawing conclusion based on that. But we don’t agree that it can ever replace “traditional subjective approach” in hiring. It can only act as a catalyst that too for some part of hiring processes. For example, it can never replace “Consultant discussing with candidate as on today basis and judge the interest level of candidate”. There are many more such signifi cant parts of hiring process which are non-replaceable.

What’s unique about CAREER SHAPERS when it comes to Recruitment solutions?

The uniqueness about CAREER SHAPERS is Reliability and Accountability in terms of delivery, which is hugely missing in contingency hiring space. Whenever we meet new clients they “always complain about gap in reliability & accountability with their existing partners” but we can proudly say our existing client never has this complaint. Our uniqueness is also the WAY we manage the entire recruitment process. This WAY is a result of great mix and combination of all factors when putting together contributes to close complex mandates for our clients. The mix comprises 14 years of presence in Indian market providing unmatched services, successful closure of more than 18000 vacancies, industry specialist recruitment team, pan India exposure, ERP solution driven organisation, 70 people strong team, ISO certifi cation (in process), system and process driven approach, practices matching international standards, use of technology, and running large scale RPOs.

What methodology is followed at CAREER SHAPERS to bring the desired results for a business in meeting its manpower needs?

More than methodology, what works is our passion, approach and our mind set of successfully executing every assignment offered. In last 14 years, we have developed systems and processes of international standards which are executed, monitored, audited and controlled on regular basis. Methodology per se varies from mandate to mandate depending on level of position, function, industry type, availability of manpower, geographical location, client organisation etc.

How do recruitments across the board add value propositions to your clients/partner organisations?

Turn around time and right quality - two very basic parameters in talent acquisition. If the right quality manpower is not ensured then there is no value at all. We provide value by providing analytics, market intelligence and mapping. This helps our clients to make right business decisions. We have focussed on attaining a very high standard in the area of client satisfaction. Surveying of the clients is a routine part of our processes to verify that the service delivery fulfi ls expectations.

Can you share future growth plans of your company?

We are in growth journey of becoming top HR solution provider offering end-to-end HR services.
