Do you feel there is employability skill gap in India?

Yes, that too to a large extent, if we compare with developed countries. Though government and some large corporate houses have taken good steps but still gap is visible. The need of the hour is to do it on much larger scale and on faster pace.

How do you see the hiring trend in FY 14-15?

The hiring trend in FY 14-15 would be much better than FY 13-14. We are expecting around 40 percent increase in lateral and leadership hiring. This trend may vary sector-wise. Most of the companies would still do cautious and critical hiring only.

Can you elaborate on cautious hiring?

To ensure critical business need based hiring, now corporates are investing more on various HR studies. The objective is to align HR with business function in current volatile economic scenario. In recent past, our clients have been outsourcing us HR advisory services like talent mapping, exit interviews, attrition analysis, compensation benchmarking, and incentive benchmarking etc.

So what do you see the future of Recruitment Consulting in current volatile economic scenario?

The job of a Recruitment Consultant has become lot more challenging now and expectation of clients has increased manifolds. The entire Recruitment Industry is going through a major consolidation phase wherein consulting companies having competent team, best system & processes, high end technology and capacity to run RPOs effectively, can only survive.

Do you see any role of Recruitment Consultant in a scenario where companies have made their internal recruitment system strong?

Recruitment Consulting companies are playing a signifi cant role in entire recruitment eco system. “Internal recruitment of companies” and “Consultants providing recruitment consulting services” can co-exist comfortably. There is a lot of room for recruitment consultants to serve clients and grow.

HR technology based on data and analytics is replacing the traditional subjective approach in hiring and recruitment. Do you agree? If yes, how it is benefi tting HR professionals as well as organisations?

Yes, without proper data analysis, it is like driving car with closed eyes. It is indeed playing a signifi cant role in hiring process. It is benefi tting entire recruitment fraternity in terms of making the data available and drawing conclusion based on that. But we don’t agree that it can ever replace “traditional subjective approach” in hiring. It can only act as a catalyst that too for some part of hiring processes. For example, it can never replace “Consultant discussing with candidate as on today basis and judge the interest level of candidate”. There are many more such signifi cant parts of hiring process which are non-replaceable.
